When I saw this story on the sports ticker on Fox Sports,
the slice of pizza I was eating nearly fell out of my hand. From what I
read, Sir Alex Ferguson will ask Manchester United to pay whatever it
takes to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
There are sources saying that Ferguson is anxious to find out whether the Portuguese star is serious about wanting to leave Real Madrid. If Ronaldo wants out, Ferguson will go to the owners of United, the Glazer family, to help him resign his former player.
This news seems like a far stretch, but there have been a lot of football stories in the last couple of
months that have seemed that way that came true. And the way Arsenal fan's luck has been lately, the combination of Ronaldo and Robin van Persie would just be the cherry on top of years of sub-par seasons for us, and championship runs for Sir Alex. If United actually acquired Ronaldo back, every owner of every club in the Premier League has to throw their hands up in frustration.
Ferguson has a close relationship with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, and Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho. Ronaldo has an £800 million buy-out clause in his contract and Real president Florentino Perez is so upset with the winger's lack of respect that it has been whispered that he will consider anything in excess of £100 million. United would love to get Ronaldo's enormous commercial value that would enhance the club's bottom line.
If Ronaldo's relationship with Real Madrid is on such shaky ground, Ferguson has every right to swoop in and make a play for him; maybe more of a right than any manager in the world. Ferguson and Ronaldo know each other well and they seem to respect each other. Ronaldo, from his behavior, doesn't seem to be showing respect for anyone at his current home.
I don't think Ronaldo will move back to Old Trafford. United is in debt and their funds are limited. It's more likely a club like Chelsea or Manchester City pick up Ronaldo. That is if the rumors are true and he really wants out of Real Madrid. United has already overpaid Van Persie and Wayne Rooney this year, and Ronaldo will not be cheap no matter how much Ferguson might beg the Glazer family to go after him.
Arsenal may be able to scrounge up some money for him, although, Arsene Wenger would never meet Ronaldo's asking price. Ronaldo in Arsenal red…a person can dream.
Note: I've been an Arsenal fan for nearly a decade. My cousin got me interested in the club at a young age.
